The water on Long Island is mostly taken for granted by most everyone who lives on its soil; that being said, the depletion of our Long Island aquifers are becoming more and more severe. Many people are beginning to realize this possible disaster to late, and now commissioners are frantically trying to find ways to help preserve what we have left.
It has become apparent to the local governments that there is a huge issue involving the clean water Long Island has been taking from the ground for over a hundred years. There is mostly just one specific aquifer system that feeds clean water to our whole region, and as most of the panel boards discussing this topic agree, it is becoming scarce.
Without immediate action, this problem that seems surreal will become a disaster. I believe it is a very serious topic and that everyone needs to help do their part in conserving and not wasting the water we take for granted every day, whether it be a hot shower or letting the water drip out of leaky faucets.
